Project Management

Originally in my FMP proposal I submitted a approximate schedule that I intended to follow the best I could as it was meant to be a outline of such. Of course it was fine at first but I did overestimate how much time my tasks would take me. Because of that, I took much longer to do things like fully complete my rough storyboard. At a certain point during my process I had to do a hard reset on my creative process because it had become really stressful trying to make it look too good. I have a need to be a perfectionist but it slowed me down to a point where I didn't get as much work done as I should. After I met with my tutor, we decided that I should start my storyboard again on post its so it was more freeing and less pressure on it to look clean. The idea was just to let the creative flow happen without any obstructions. I felt like it worked and it was liberating.

I was fairly on track after that, but I did encounter another obstacle that affected my time management on the project. I have a learning disability that makes it quite difficult to get tasks done in a timely manner. Most people are able to just sit down and do the task, but for me it takes so much effort to just do the work. Its like there's a barrier in my brain that's stopping me from doing it. Some days are very productive while others I can't bring myself to get any work done. Because of that it's difficult to gauge how long something might take me to do. To combat this the best way I could, I came up with a couple of solutions to help me focus. I found that putting on headphones and putting on a playlist helps me stay focused on the task at hand, and it keeps me working until the playlist ends. Doing things in smaller spurts rather than longer periods helps me feel less burnt out. I also set myself daily tasks to complete. Having a check list helps organize what I need to do and achieve some short term goals.
